About the competition
Spanish Classical Guitar Competition 2018 is the fifth national-level classical guitar competition by the Instituto Cervantes New Delhi and Embassy of Spain in India. Previous editions were held in 2007 in association with the Delhi School of Music and in 2009 in association with the Bangalore School of Music, with the intention of fostering an interest in Spanish music and culture in India. In 2016 the Calcutta International Classical Guitar Festival revived this competition. It is now an annual event, the only national-level classical guitar competition in the country, and takes place each December at the Calcutta School of Music.
From 2018, the official partner of the competition is the Festival de la Guitarra de Córdoba, the world’s oldest and longest running classical guitar festival. Held in the first fortnight of July each year, Cordoba transforms into a “guitar city” with the very best performers of classical, flamenco and jazz guitar giving concerts and workshops.
The winner of the Spanish Classical Guitar Competition gets a fully paid scholarship (including international travel and accommodation) to attend the Festival de la Guitarra de Córdoba the following year.
