Kunal Saha, a young talented versatile Santoor artiste from Eastern India, started taking his music lessons from the renowned Santoor maestro of the Maihar Gharana, Pt. Tarun Bhattacharya, from the tender age of six.
With the guidance of his Guruji, at the age of eight, Kunal started his public stage performances and also participated in the classical programmes at the All India Radio Station regularly. At the age of ten, he got the 1st prize at the All India Quest organized by The Telegraph.With his many performances as a young talent, he also got many commendable accolades from legendary musicians such as the great violin maestro, the late Pt. V.G.Jog. In 2015, Kunal received Young Acheiver’s award from Shanghati Society U.K. for his contribution in the field of music.
In his school and college days, Kunal bagged many 1st prizes at various music competitions. In 2006, Kunal formed his own band called Blendz, the only Ethnic Electronic Fusion Band from Eastern India. Kunal and his band Blendz participated in India’s Got Talent (Season 1) and were among the finalists of the Independence Day Episode, which brought him and his work in the limelight.
Since the beginning of 2012, Kunal embarked on performing Jugalbandi (Duet) concerts with young talented flautist, Soumyajyoti Ghosh. This Santoor-Flute Duo is known as KounterPoint’ and they have more recently collaborated with the famous Japanese folk band Aun and Hide to perform together in their “One Asia” concert, marking the 60th anniversary of Indo-Japanese Diplomatic Relations.
In 2015, Kunal along with his co-music composer, Pradyut Chatterjea, released their unique ever lasting Music Album named Devonix. The album features Bhajan Samrat Sri Anup Jalota with his devotional renditions with Electronic Fusion and World Music for the very 1st time. The goal behind composing the featured music in their album in such a different yet fresh approach is to create a confluence of devotion and modern beats that will attract music-lovers of all ages and cultures around the world. Here Sri Anup Jalota is being presented in a new Avatar.
Recently, Kunal formed his own Sufi Band Aafreen which has already created its own identity.
Arindam Chakravarty a young and versatile tabla player was born into a musical family. He was initiated in tabla by his parents at the age of five under the guidance of Acharya Pandit Shankar Ghosh and continued taking lessons from him for 26 years. He is a “Ganda Bandh” student of Panditji. Arindam is a promising Musician of his generation of Farukhabad Gharana. He also took lessons in Carnatic Percussion Music from Vidwan S.Sekhar.
Arindam has been associated and performed with several legends and renowned musicians from all over the world including maestros like Ustad Aashish Khan, Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Ustad Shahid Parvez, Vidushi Jaya Biswas, Pandit Kamal Mullick, Ustad Shafique Khan, Pandit Harashankar Bhattacharya, Vidushi Sanjukta Ghosh to name a few. Recently he has toured in Japan with the legend Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma in the year 2015.
Honoured with the title of “Taal Mani”, Arindam Chakravarty is an empanelled Artiste of ICCR (Indian Council For Cultural Relations) in the established Artiste Category and EZCC ( Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre), Ministry of Culture, Govt. Of India. He has got National Outstanding Award for Tabla “GANA YOGI PANCHAKSHIRI KALA VIKAS PURASKAR 2015” in BHIMSEN SANGEET UTSAV, A recipient of Award Council Of India’s prestigious “Sangeet Gaurav-Pride of West Bengal” samman, A Senior National Scholar from Ministry of Culture, New Delhi as well as “Sangeet Bhaskar” in Tabla achieving 1st Division marks from Pracheen Kala Kendra Chandigarh.
He is a regular All India Radio and Television Artiste. As a Soloist and Accompanist he has participated and performed in several noteworthy Indian and International Music Festivals like Tirupati Balaji Devasthanams Concert, Konark Dance & Music Festival, Bodhi Mahotsav, Ninad Festival, Sur Festival, Baba Aladduin Khan Sangeet Samaroh-Maihar, All Bengal Music Conference-Kolkata, Uttarpara Sangeet Chakra, Raj Bhawan, CP House, Kal Ke Kalakar Sangeet Sammelan-Mumbai, Doverlane Music Conference-Kolkata,Idea Jalsa-Mumbai, Ninad Festival-Patna, Haldia Music Circle, Auroville and Aurobindo Ashram-Pondicherry, Spic Macay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Mumbai, IIM Calcutta, Ramkrishnamission Institute of Culture Golpark-Kolkata, Habitat World & India International Centre-New Delhi, String Festival presented by Live In Series by Sri Bickram Ghosh, Siddha Group & ICCR, Bengal Foundation-Dhaka Bangladesh, WAG Festival-Sarawak Kuching,and concerts and workshops in Japan, Tokyo, Gifu, Kyoto to name a few.
As a mark of his true versatility as a Musician Arindam has been performing with renowned bands like “Layavinyas” a Carnatic Hindustani & Western ensemble with Vidwan N.Shankar and imbibed his special innovative approach to music. He has also performed with another band named “Indian Blue” from its very inception.
